Lost property 🧤🧦👕👟

Unfortunately there have been items lost over the last couple of terms. Many items have turned up again but there are several still missing. Tomorrow afternoon there will be lost property laid out by the Children’s Centre, gathered from around the whole school. Please have a look and see if you can spot anything belonging to your child.
Could I encourage everyone to check that uniform they have is labelled clearly please? Names are starting to fade!
Thank you so much.

Late weekly round-up!

Last week, Drama Geezers came to St Edmunds. They worked with each class creating a chapter for our school book. Crystal Class created a chapter set in a toy shop – there were clowns, teddy bears, witches and moving chairs. We can’t wait to read the whole story!

On Friday we had our Crystal Time which we earned last term when we filled the Crystal Jar. Everyone enjoyed playing with their toys or riding bikes and scooters.

Mr Brockwell introduced the children to a composing programme on PurpleMash. It inspired the two young ladies below. They  wrote lyrics for their composition, and then performed it to the class.

In Provision there was cooking (a very cheesy omlette and some yummy shortbread), reading for pleasure, exploring the marble run and ‘creating’, amongst many, many other things!
Well done Crystal Class! 👏🏻👏🏻

Pizza time👩🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳🧑🏽‍🍳

We had such a lovely time on our mini trip to Sevenoaks’ Pizza Express today! Crystal Class listened to Salvatore explain the history of pizza (there is no pineapple on Italian pizza!) and then they made their own. A slice was eaten before returning to school with the reminder tucked safely in a box. They were delicious! We will be writing about our trip in school this week, and looking forward to our next trip to Leeds Castle on the 15th May!

This week!

Tomorrow we have our trip to Pizza Express. We are leaving promptly at 9am (earlier if possible!) and will be back in time for lunch. All the children will have made a pizza which they can eat for their lunch, however you may wish to provide additional items too!

Homework will be out a day late this week on Thursday, and due back again next Tuesday. Thank you so much to those who are completing it- it makes a huge difference!

PE is on Thursday.

On Friday we are wearing red, white and/or blue to celebrate the Coronation.

Photos are currently not uploading to the blog (we took lots this week too!) but I’m hoping to be able to sort it out and do a late round up – we loved the Drama Geezers last week and there are some great shots!

I hope everyone has enjoyed their Bank Holiday weekend!

This week

What’s on this week?

Monday: Homework due back please

Wednesday: Homework sent out

Thursday: PE and a drama workshop with Drama Geezers

Friday: Crystal time. Children can bring in a bike or scooter (with helmet) or a toy as their reward for filling the Crystal Jar. 😊👏🏻👏🏻

I’m afraid we were so engrossed in our new topic last week that there no photos! We are learning about castles and are looking forward to enjoying tales of knights and princesses. If you have anything castle related, please send it in!

The month of May sees the Year 2 children taking their SATs. Over the course of the month, the children will work in small groups to complete different test booklets which have been set by the government covering reading, maths and spelling. However the children will not notice anything out of the ordinary and there will be absolutely no stress or pressure attached to them. They should hopefully be unaware that they are even happening. As with all tests, they are useful to see which learning has really stuck and what we may need to teach a little more. SATs are not a measure of whether your child is passing or failing; they simply show what level your child is currently working to.
If you are planning a holiday in school time during May, please let me know so I can plan accordingly. And please do not discuss the tests with your child – it may prompt them to think they are a big deal and encourage feelings of pressure which no 6 or 7 year old should feel!
If you have any questions please ask! 😊

A week on Tuesday, after the Bank Holiday, we have our trip to Pizza Express. If your child has any allergies or intolerances which school may be unaware of, please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you!

End of term round up!

I hope that everyone enjoyed a lovely Easter? What a difference it makes when the sun shines!

The last week of term saw our last Forest School session for Year 2. Everyone loved relaxing in hammocks and having hot chocolate. Crystal Class then sharpened sticks to toast their marshmallows over the fire and make s’mores!

The PTA organised a fun treasure hunt in the hall. The prize for finding all the different items and colour sorting them was an Easter egg!

Back in class we made chocolate nests and Easter cards. Mrs Field organised treat bags from the Crystal Class staff, and Miss Cross gave every child an Easter egg as a goodbye gift. She has been a wonderful addition to the Crystal Class team and we will miss her!

Finally, and with great enthusiasm, we finished the Spring term with our mini concert and Show and Share event. It was a really lovely end of term, and thank you to everyone for coming along!

Next term starts on Monday. PE is changing back to every Thursday with Miss Bracken, and Mr Brockwell is returning to St Edmunds to complete his teacher training!
Enjoy the rest of the break!

More about this week!

On Wednesday, children from St Andrew’s house are invited to wear their own clothes! Well done St Andrew’s! 👏🏻👏🏻

Also, please find details below about PTA end of term events. Please note that payment needs to be made by Wednesday.

Finally, children came home today with a login for Times Table Rockstars (TTR). This is a site where children can practice their multiplication tables and earn coins. We tried it today for the first time in Crystal Class!

There are different parts to the site and The Garage is the most useful part to use as it is set at your child’s level. ‘Jamming’ can be set at a level that your child chooses but less coins are earned.
By the end of year 2 we should be able to recall 10, 5 and 2 x tables and their division facts too.
Please encourage your child to use the programme.😊

Thank you!
